 Canning Season is Here – Home Food Preservation Classes Coming Soon!

Spring is here and beautiful days are ahead. It’s time to plan and preserve some of your fresh grown produce to enjoy in the fall and winter season. Are you new to canning or an experienced canner? Whatever your situation, N.C. Cooperative Extension will offer Home Food Preservation workshops through out the Spring and Summer months where we will cover water bath & pressure canning, jams & jellies, pickling, freezing, drying, and much more! You have a choice to participate online (Multi-County HPF Series) or in-person (Forsyth County Agricultural Building). You can pick and choose the workshops you would like to attend.


The online workshops will be offered on Thursday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and presented by FCS Agents across the North Central District of North Carolina. Schedule for online workshops are as follows: 
April 14th: Introduction to Canning
April 28th: Water Bath Canning
May 12th: Pressure Canning
May 26th: Freezing
June 9th: Sweet Spreads
June 23rd: Fermentation

The in-person workshops will be on Fridays except for the first session and the sessions will be from 10 a.m. to 12 Noon. Space is limited to 15 people. Registration is required for each session being offered. In-person workshops will open up for registration 3 weeks before the scheduled workshop (keep an eye out or sign-up for the reminder alert).
