Winter sowing is an option for gardeners who want to grow plants from seeds but lack indoor growing space. Using repurposed containers, seeds can be started outside but still protected from colder winter temperatures. This is a low-cost option for gardeners.

Want to learn more about winter sowing? Check out this website which includes a video and links to more resources.

N.C. Cooperative Extension, Forsyth County Center, will host a “Winter Seed Sowing in Repurposed Pots” workshop on Thursday, January 11, 2024. The workshop will include information on what plants can be started with this method and how to winter sow. Participants who provide a recycled container will have the opportunity to plant some seeds to take home.
