Constructed Wetlands Tour: Walnut Cove Wastewater Facility (Forsyth Creek Week)
Tour Walnut Cove’s constructed wetlands and see how nature helps clean wastewater at the source —smart design, clean water, real impact.
As a part of this year's Creek Week festivities, you are invited to join us for a guided tour of the Walnut Cove Wastewater Treatment Facility to see how constructed wetlands are being used to naturally treat wastewater. This innovative system uses wetland plants and soils to improve water quality while reducing environmental impact.
The tour will be led by Dr. Michael Burchell, Professor and Extension Specialist with NC State University, whose research focuses on ecological engineering, constructed wetlands, and water quality. Dr. Burchell will share insights into how these systems are designed, how they function, and the benefits they provide to communities and the environment.
We will meet at the Forsyth County Extension Office at 1:00 PM to carpool/caravan to the site. The group will return to the Extension Office at approximately 3:30 PM.
To accommodate the space, registration is limited to the first 15 participants.

A van will be available for carpooling. Please indicate during registration if you intend to carpool. We ask that you still meet at the Extension office if you are driving to the site, as it can be difficult to find even with directions or GPS.
