Do you enjoy writing science fiction stories—or exploring any of its many subgenres? Share your creativity in our Forsyth County Science Fiction Short Story Contest! Writers are invited to submit an original short story of no more than 1,000 words for a chance to win a prize.
What We’re Looking For: We want imaginative, engaging science fiction stories that showcase creativity, strong storytelling, and thoughtful worldbuilding. Your story can be serious, funny, adventurous, futuristic, or anything in between. You may use the optional prompt for inspiration, but it is not required.
Optional Prompt: Imagine the future of urban agriculture technology. What does that technology look like? What does it do? What will urban agriculture look like in Forsyth County in 100 years?

How the Contest Works: This contest is open to Forsyth County, North Carolina residents. Submissions will be grouped into three age categories: • Children: up to age 12 • Teens: 13–17 • Adults: 18+ One winner will be selected from each category. Stories will be judged on creativity, clarity, originality, and how well they fit the science fiction genre. Winners will be contacted by February 28th. Prizes must be picked up in person at the North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Forsyth County office. Register to receive the submission link in your ticket.
