WHAT: N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Sciences (NCDA&CS) Scale Technicians will be certifying weigh scales for 2026.

North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Sciences (NCDA&CS) will be certifying weigh scales on Thursday, March 12th, 2026 9AM-11:30AM at the N.C. Cooperative Extension Forsyth County Center located at 1450 Fairchild Rd, Winston-Salem.

This service is FREE.

Scales may be dropped off prior to Thursday March 12 at your convenience to the front desk or brought the day-of.

  • DROP OFF your scales to the Extension Office before or on Thursday, March 12 between 9-11 AM. Please arrive early, if dropping off the day of as NCDA&CS certifiers may leave before 11:30 if they finish early.
  • PICK UP after 11AM.

Please attach a sticky note to each scale that you want to have certified with the following information:

  • County you live/farm in
  • Name and/or Farm Name
  • Address
  • Phone number

Why Participate? Those that sell produce and other items by weights must have their scales certified annually. Scales need to be NTEP approved to be legal for use in North Carolina to comply with laws dictated by the NCDA&CS. The Measurement Section of the NCDA&CS, among other duties, inspects weighing and measuring devices for accuracy (scales, scanners, motor fuel dispensers, fuel oil meters, and many other devices). Please note that only NTEP approved/"Legal for trade" scales are eligible to be certified by NCDA&CS and used for sales.
