For centuries, gardeners have used a wide variety of techniques for sheltering plants from cold weather—both in early spring and fall—to extend the growing season for a longer, larger harvest. Ambitious gardeners can harvest cool-weather crops all winter by providing the right conditions.
There are many ways to lengthen the growing season, depending on the amount of time and money invested. In this workshop, we will explore what season extension is and best methods in community gardens. We will demonstrate best use of floating and hoop-supported row cover, and participants will help with construction.
This program is hosted in collaboration between N.C Cooperative Extension, Forsyth County Center and Crossnore Communities for Children. Information provided will be most relevant to community and home gardeners, but all are welcome to attend.
