Farms under threat 2040. Choosing an Abundant Future.

American Farmland Trust, in partnership with Conservation Science Partners and the Center for Sustainability and the Global Environment at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, conducted a modeling effort to project how development and climate change will affect agricultural land under several different future scenarios. Using advanced geospatial analysis, they mapped three contrasting development scenarios from 2016 to 2040. The differences among them represent broad policy pathways that the country might take.

Farms Under Threat 2040: Choosing an Abundant Future, and the accompanying web mapping tool, are designed to help North Carolinians explore alternatives in development choices. A report on climate threats to agriculture will be released later in 2022.

Farms Under Threat is American Farmland Trust’s multi-year initiative to document the status of and threats to agricultural land while offering policy solutions to protect that land.

You can also browse the NC FarmLink website for resources on buying, selling, and leasing farmland, as well as establish a personal account and profile to share information about your farmland availability with farm seekers, or your farming dreams with landowners.
