Collapse ▲4-H Presentations are a 6-12 minute speech. A presentation actually uses props such as storyboards, posters, slides, and visual aids (Sorry, no live animals or weapons) to help tell their story. The subject for your presentation can be on more than 35 different topics from aardvarks to Zoology, so pick a topic that you are comfortable with.
A public speech is a type of presentation, but you are not allowed to use any props (other than notecards).
Outdoor cookery is considered a 4-H presentation so youth must choose to do either a presentation or outdoor cookery, but not both. Categories include beef, chicken, pork, turkey, or seafood. Youth should provide their own portable charcoal grill for this event, but we do have some small ones available at the office. Contact us to reserve yours. Additionally, this category does NOT require an oral prepared presentation at district, but does require a place setting with table decorations.
Youth should give their presentation, public speech, OR outdoor grilling item on Tuesday, May 10 at 6:00 p.m. Registration is in 4-H Online <a href=”https://v2.4honline.com/” rel=”external”>4-H Online</a>. Log into your family profile, click on events on the left, then select which youth you want to register and complete the form. Youth that aren’t enrolled in 4-H Online now, can enroll and register after they are approved. Youth ages 8-18 that are selected as a county winner will advance to district on Friday, June 17 in Wilkesboro (transportation will be available if needed). All youth ages 5-7 may participate at District. District winners will advance to state competition on NC State campus on Saturday, July 16.
