We have put together a short survey to gauge the interest in a 4-H poultry and/or rabbit show for youth ages 5-18 to be held tentatively on May 7. Please take a moment and complete this survey by September 12, 2021.

There will be an overview, followed by a Question and Answer session on Thursday, September 23 at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom. You must register online before 4:30 p.m. on the 23rd in order to receive the Zoom meeting link. It will be emailed to the email address that you register with.

Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, and Yadkin Counties have joined together to offer a 4-H Poultry and Rabbit Show on Saturday, May 7, 2022. The show will include both a meat-type bird show and a layer show where the judge evaluates the birds’ confirmation. Youth exhibiting birds in either show will also be allowed to exhibit in showmanship where the judge evaluates how well you handle your bird and well you two work together.

Those youth interested in showing laying hens should plan to receive their birds (ordered by us) in October, brood, and raise them until the show. After the show, the hens may return home with you. You will be able to choose between a few different breeds for your chicks.

Those youth interested in a shorter-term poultry project will receive meat-type birds around March 19, and then brood, and raise them until the show. All birds must be returned to 4-H on the day of the show and will not return home with you. At this time, we plan to place three birds with each youth.

There will be a fee (potentially $15) to cover the cost of the chicks, hosting the show, etc.

Youth may also exhibit their own personal rabbit in both a confirmation/type class and a showmanship class.

Youth must be enrolled in 4-H Online. Everyone in attendance at the show should follow the 4-H Dress Code and the 4-H Code of Conduct.
